14 Reasons Why I Think You Should Start A Blog

My life has changed so much since launching This is Lifeblood. I’ve made some lifelong friendships with like-minded blogger buddies who I never would have met otherwise, I’ve rediscovered my love for writing, health and creativity and I’ve connected with a tribe of souls who seem to dig what I have to say (over 12,000 unique visitors a month and counting!), which I am incredibly grateful for. My Facebook tribe is almost at 1300 gorgeous humans and This is Lifeblood was a top 5 finalist in the Bupa Health Influencer Blog Awards in July.

All in all, it’s been pretty darn fab.

So I think YOU should start a blog too!

Here’s 14 reasons why.

1. Blogs are so much fun!

I love brainstorming blog topics, putting together posts and creating images and doing “blog research” by trawling through my favourite online spaces... It’s very serious work you know. *wink*

2. Change the world, one blog post at a time.

Want to make a difference in the world? Inspire? Create? Leave a legacy? Share your story? This is the stuff that stirs my soul. This is why I show up on my blog every week.

I love nothing more than opening an email from a reader who has resonated with my ramblings or finding a comment from someone who found inspiration and encouragement in my words. We need to lift each other up! Blogs are an amazing way to create a catalyst for change in the world.

3. You will meet the coolest people. Ever.

When you have your own little online home, you attract likeminded individuals who dig the same stuff as you. Being able to jump in the inbox of someone whose blog you’re totally crushing on and share your own blog with them is such a fun way to connect! The friendships I have made in the blogosphere are pure gold. Grateful!

4. Because you can.

A year ago I had no idea what a widget, plug in, SEO or Mail Chimp was. My blog is pretty basic but I’ve built the whole thing myself. No web designer, no tech training, nothing. If I can do it (with the help of Google and YouTube), so can you. Believe me.

5. Self expression!

This is where the magic happens. Interacting with the world through your blog creates an incredible platform where self expression thrives. Creativity. Life. Engagement. Personality. Colour. Soul-baring. All the good stuff.

6. Blogs keep you doing stuff.

They keep you accountable, engaged and an active life participant. To maintain your message as a blogger, you’ve gotta keep connecting with life, digging deep and finding the gems the world has to offer. Of which, there are many! Never stop sharing.

7. It’s cheap as chips..

So far I have spent around $70 on a theme for my site, from Themify.me, I pay around $9 a month for web hosting from WPHosting.com.au and my domain name cost $99. There are definitely more expensive hobbies than blogging.

8. There is no better time than now. Truly.

The way we communicate has changed forever. The blogosphere and social media has completely changed the way we interact, consume and connect. Get on board. It’s a fun ride!

Which brings me to my next point.

9. Business, baby!

If you have a product or service to sell, you need to have a blog. It doesn’t matter if it’s organic nappies, cute bikinis, massages or dog sitting services that you’re hustling, you need to be able to connect with your customer on a more personal, authentic level.

Today, we use Instagram to review products, we follow the CEOs of companies on Twitter and we drool over “behind the scenes” posts on the blogs of our fave brands.

Killer content helps to provide value and creates meaningful relationships. A blog allows your customer an avenue to know, like and trust you. Win!

10. You become a better person...

Well, maybe not. But you definitely become a better writer, photographer and more tech-savvy, connected and creative individual.

11. You’ll get to know yourself better.

I can promise you this one. You dig deeper. There is more awareness, more consciousness, more questions and ultimately - more answers.

12. You get sent free stuff...

Ha! Gotta put this in here. Being able to support people and products that I truly adore by sharing them with the world is pretty cool. Packages and parcels in the mail are fun!

13. Being a blogger makes you instantly more interesting.

It’s true. It tells people you have something to say. And you do. Which leads me to my last point.

14. You’ve got something to say!

Gorgeous, you’ve got such a bright, shining message. Combine it with your wealth of creativity, that wicked story you love to tell, your own life lessons, your burning desire and that fabulously unique perspective you’re rocking, and you’ve got magic that the world is waiting to hear.
