5 Fun & Creative Ideas for the Weekend... No Paintbrush Required!

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Need a dose of creative fire in the belly? Maybe you feel like you haven't got a creative bone in your body? (Let me tell you, you do).

I've recently set aside some hours in my weekends that are going to be set aside for getting down and dirty and making a sweet, creative mess. Getting a bit silly. Bliss.

Can I encourage you to do the same? If this sounds fab to you - but you're not sure where to start - here are 5 creative ideas for the weekend ahead. Enjoy!

1. Approach an afternoon through a lens.

Grab your camera (or smart phone) and pick a shape, colour or pattern. It could be a square, or the colour red or stripes. Then, take to the streets and capture whatever comes your way that reflects your chosen motif. It might take awhile to get going, but you'll soon gain momentum and you'll be seeing your shape/colour/pattern everywhere! Collect your images and if you're feeling really crafty, print them off and make a collage out of them!

2. Draw your food for a day.

Forget taking photos of your lunch on Instagram. Grab a pen and a pad and draw your meals for the day! Your doodles don't need to be realistic, have proportion or perspective. They're just a cute and simple way to connect with your creativity - and your chosen nourishment - with mindfulness and fun. Heck, you could even Instagram the drawings after! Ha! Let's hashtag #drawyourlunch (I would love to see!)

3. Hit the kitchen and shake yo' bootay.

Pick 5 ingredients (randomly or selectively), turn on your favourite tunes and give yourself an hour in the kitchen to cook, bake, grate and create. No recipe required. Follow your intuition. Be stoked with whatever you come up with and have a blast! Bonus points for dancing and/or dance-offs in the kitchen. I personally love a good Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits and Bob Dylan soundtrack whilst cooking up a storm!

4. Sing baby, sing!

Get someone else involved with this one. Do this in the morning and try and have an entire conversation singing to each other what you plan to do that day. Bonus points for using a hairbrush/wooden spoon as a microphone.

"Oooohhhhh baby, I'm gonna pay that bill and then let's go to the Farmer's Market, oooohhhhh"

"Yeeaaahhh! Yeeaahhhh. Count me in. I'm going to gooooo for a runnn baby, then I'm all yourrrrss."

"Oh yeah! A run! Food! Baby, baby, we got today maaaaaaade!"

Hehehe. See where I'm going here? Hilarious fun!

5. Your closet is a creative haven. Use it.

Every day, you dress yourself - well, I hope you do. Some days, this term can be applied loosely, but generally, I bet you put some clothes on most days. But it can get mundane. Yes? I love this quote from stylist, Rachel Zoe.

'Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak'

Dressing ourselves, 'stylish' or not, is a creative act within itself! Here's an opportunity for you to let loose a little here and take that self expression up a notch. Pick a favourite colour and guide your outfit that way, or throw together items you would normally never wear.

Wear something back to front. Cut the arms off. Turn a scarf into a belt. Paint your shoes. Go nuts! How can your clothes reflect you a little more?

What do you think? Sound like a few things you could carve out some time for this weekend? Share with me below, what's your favourite way to make a creative, magic mess?
