Heroines with Heart: Amelia Williams of Nurture and Shine

Let me start this intro by declaring freely and openly that I love this girl so, so, SO much. Amelia Williams is a Mum, a health coach, reiki healer and social media manager, but I believe the woman is secretly an angel. An angel my friends, an angel.

Amelia glows. She radiates. She wraps you up in a whirl of positivity, love and encouragement and when I had the pleasure of spending a day with her after months of back-and-forth emails (where we discovered we had, like, everything in common), I got to experience this lady's authentic awesome-ness in the flesh.

She's the real deal, folks.

Her online home Nurture and Shine, is one of my favourite bloggy-hangouts. I'm constantly urging my friends/clients/housemates/neighbours to watch her gorgeous, genuine and inspiring videos (such a natural on camera!) and fall a little bit in love with her too. Of course, they end up falling a little bit in love with themselves, which is where this goddess's magic lies; she wills you to fall in love with yourself, your life and be happy now. As you are.

Intrigued? Read on beautiful.

So, first things first. What is your dream?

My dream… The ultimate is for every woman out there to feel like she is living her dream life.  To know that the elusive “dream” is available to her – right now.  I want women to know how beautiful and special they are.  I want them to feel good about themselves in every way.  I want to guide them to a place where they are completely and utterly at peace with themselves

On a personal level, the dream is to build up my coaching business so it fits naturally and beautifully in with life with my family.  And the other big dream is to be able to travel the world with our children and for us all to experience the richness of the world around us – together.  And to own our own little slice of heaven by the beach.

But I shouldn’t say it’s a dream.  Because it will happen.  It’s just a matter of when! ;)

What makes up your lifeblood?

There is so much that makes up my lifeblood...

Being a mother – that is something I always knew would happen eventually, but it wasn’t until it actually happened that I realised it was something I was born to do.  Those little people chose me for a reason, and I’m forever grateful.

My husband and the love we share, time with beautiful friends, yoga, good food, laughter, crazy dancing, soulful conversations, a really good breakfast, being in nature, travel, coaching, writing, creating, freedom, living authentically, LOVE …

What has been your biggest fear to date to overcome?

My lack of self-love and fear that I would never be good enough for anything.  For a long time that feeling of self-love was virtually non-existent.  I’ve had to build up my confidence piece by piece.  It’s been scary and incredibly confronting at times, but ultimately the best thing I’ve ever done.

I really lost myself, and I had to get to know myself on a whole new level… and it’s through that that I’ve found my passion and I suppose, my purpose.

Being healthy means that I...

I am looking after all areas of my life.  It’s completely holistic.  I want to be healthy in my body and with what I put into my mouth, but it’s also about what I put on my skin, trusting myself, how I listen to the messages my body sends me, the work I do, the relationships I have, my mindset, the time I spend on just myself and how I feel to my very core.  To be truly healthy, every single area of my life needs nurturing.

To me, the word 'healing' means...

To nurture, to spend time on, to love and then to let go.

I suppose that being a mother, I have that very nurturing side to me (hence the blog name!) – so healing for me means the old “mother’s love” – a wound, no matter how big or small, needs to be cared for, it needs love and focus, and then eventually it can be released.

Where is your ultimate travel destination?

The top 3 destinations on my to do list are New York – for the city, the buzz, the lifestyle, the scenery, the BIG-ness, the wonder and the magic of it all; Bali – for the tranquility, the relaxation, the slow pace and the retreat of it; and India – for the Spiritual, Cultural and Sensory overload.

What DRIVES you?

The need to shed my layers, discover myself and evolve as a person living this life.

And of course, my children.  I want them to grow up in a healthy world where they feel safe enough to follow their dreams and always, always be true to who they are.

Choosing love over fear means...

For me, it’s about opening myself up and surrendering to the natural flow of life.  It’s about showing compassion to myself and others, living in truth and ensuring that no matter how hard things get, or how many slips back into “ego-thought” that I have – I dust myself off and try again - from a place of love.

I feel really creative when I...

Am alone, candles lit or incense burning, surrounded by my crystals, music playing – pen to paper…

Or late at night… Things always seem to come to me just before I go to bed – thank goodness for the “notes” app on the iPhone!

If you could tell your 14 year old self one thing, what would it be?

That you are enough.  That you don’t need to fit in – it’s ok to “fit out”

That you are beautiful, and unique and so very loved.  And if she didn’t listen (which she likely wouldn’t have), I’d tell her that while it may feel like it gets worse before it gets better.  It does get better.  Life becomes freakin’ amazing!

Can you share with us your secret indulgence?

My secret indulgence is simple (and not at all a secret!)… Being able to have an hour of quiet time (children asleep), hot cup of tea in hand (Lavender & Mint from Madame Flavour is really floating my boat right now), and some Raw Chocolate… and I’m DONE.  That is my indulgence right now.

Or the odd occasion I can retreat to the hairdressers – trashy magazines, a bit of pampering, a new ‘do and even a glass of bubbly if it’s an evening appointment… hello me-time!!
