Nourishing "Cherry Ripe" Smoothie

Before the weather cools down to the point that all I want in the mornings is hot, steamy porridge, I've been rejoicing in the last of the sunshine by alternating my morning green smoothie with some delicious treat-like creations for brekky.

One of my favourite treats of all time, used to be a Cherry Ripe. Delicious chocolate, cherry and coconut-ty goodness, but not so great for breakfast.Or really at all, if we're being honest here.

I swear though, this smoothie tastes JUST like a Cherry Ripe and is super nourishing. It's packed with antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, healthy fats and protein instead of the refined sugars (the bars are over 50% sugar), vegetable oils, emulsifiers and the artificial colours and flavours you get in the wrapped version.

Basically, this smoothie will give your skin a nice glow rather than a nasty breakout. Plus, superfood guru David Wolfe claimed in one of my recent lectures at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition that the combination of chocolate and berries together increases antioxidant absorption.

A man after my own heart!Ideally, I'd use cherries in this recipe but they're not in season right now and the strawberries do the trick on the sweetness, as long as you use organic! I even got one of my brother's best mates tick of approval! (Some eye candy there for you ladies - am I good to you or what?)

In your blender, throw…

1 tbsp coconut cream

1/2 cup waterHandful of strawberries (with the stems on for extra goodness!)

1/2 frozen banana1 tsp honey1 tbsp vanilla protein powder (optional)

1 tbsp cacao powder1 tbsp shredded coconutAdd more water if necessary - blend and enjoy!
